Intro
This new Outdoor Master electric skateboard is an upgrade from their previous model. The board is a little longer, a little bigger with a more aggressive shape and foot contour. The wheelbase is a little longer and the trucks hold the wheels apart a little wider. The wheels are a little bigger. This provides a more stable platform at speeds. It’s a great option for beginners up to advanced riders with its adjustable speed and braking levels.
The remote control has a few upgrades as well that make it easy to control speed and braking as well as make adjustments to the board on the go.
All these upgrades support a higher top speed and a longer range.
I have been riding this board all over Utah, California, and Nevada for the last couple of months. This is my honest review of the electric longboard that was sent to my by Outdoor Master to write this review and video. They have no say in my opinion or what I write, and I was not compensated for the review.
Outdoor Master Caribou Overview
Deck
The deck is constructed of 10 layers in contrast to the 8 layers most skateboards are made with. The longboard deck also includes a 2mm EVA foam layer to improve shock absorption. The large oversized deck, trucks, and wheels, make this the most stable electric longboard I’ve ridden.
Trucks
The oversized wheels are supported by a wide stable 9.25-inch skate truck for more stability at higher speed. The trucks are adjustable to make turning easier or tighten them for stability at speed. A “Y” tool is included with the skateboard making it easy to make adjustments to the skateboard trucks.
Wheels
The large 96 mm wheels are a great upgrade to smaller wheel sizes. They roll over gravel, cracks, and rough roads much better than small wheels. The wheels have a medium/soft feel to them and have a good balance between grip and wear.
Freeroll
Manually pushing the board is possible if the batter is dead, or you wish to not use the motors for assistance. The board is fairly heavy and can be a bit cumbersome to push manually.
Battery
The battery is a high-capacity 346-watt hour. The battery takes about 4.5 hours to recharge completely. It The battery can deliver around 26 miles depending on many variables.
Motor
The longboard is powered by two 1000-watt hub motors inside the rear wheels.
Outdoor Master Caribou Riding Test
Range
The advertised range is 26 miles. My testing found that I could go further than 26 miles. This is affected by many variables. Elevation, surface, and rider weight can all affect how far you can go on the Outdoor Master Caribou longboard before needing to recharge the battery.
Cruising
Riding the electric longboard is so much fun. The large oversized platform offers stability and makes it easy to carve around very similar to snowboarding. Cruising up and down hills with the motor and brakes gives me a safer feeling than riding a non-electric skateboard because I can easily control my speed and braking with the remote control.
Uphill
The power from the two hub wheel motors is incredible. You feel the torque and power pushing you up even very steep hills. I rode all over California beach towns and never encountered a hill the Caribou electric skateboard couldn’t make it up.
Speed
The advertised top speed is 32 miles per hour. Honestly, I only got up to about 25 miles per hour before I got too scared to go any faster. The speed can be controlled for beginners, intermediate, and advanced riders by selecting the level on the remote control. Selecting level 1 for beginners is a great place to start that is comfortable for most who are stable on a skateboard before trying an electric longboard.
Braking
Rolling the thumbwheel on the remote control in the opposite direction will slow the long board down. The braking power can also be adjusted as it can be a little sensitive for beginners. This takes some practice to lean in the opposite direction to account for the braking force. Having brakes on an electric skateboard provides security when skating quickly.
Conclusion
This board is a lot of fun to ride, it’s large wheelbase and concave deck make it feel more stable at speed, it’s easy to control with the remote and adjustable for beginners and advanced riders. The board feels high quality, and the remote works well, but does feel like it’s made of cheaper plastic. The battery and motors all feel very solid. If I had any recommendation it would be that the remote felt a little more solid, but that is about it. I love the bigger wheels and wider trucks. It is a lot of fun to just cruise on.
