I’ve tested plenty of weapon lights over the years, and the budget category is usually where things get sketchy—cheap mounts, dim output, and pressure switches held on with electrical tape. So when the VOTATU ML40S showed up claiming 1450 lumens with an included remote pressure switch for under $40, I was skeptical but curious. Right out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the build quality. The body is machined from aircraft aluminum with a hard-anodized finish, and it’s got a solid, dense feel that you don’t always get at this price point. It mounts directly to M-LOK rails without any extra adapter, which keeps the whole setup slim and snag-free. The 1450 lumens claim may be a bit exaggerated but they always seem to be on any flashlight.
The pressure switch is really where this light earns its keep. You get both momentary and constant-on activation, plus high and low modes, and VOTATU includes two mounting plates so you can attach the switch to either Picatinny or M-LOK—no more black tape holding everything together. Activation is quick and positive, and the momentary function is exactly what you want when you need light for a split second without committing to constant-on. The output throws a strong, usable beam that fills a room easily, and the low mode is handy when you don’t want to torch your own night vision doing a quick check around the house or campsite.
Charging is handled by a magnetic USB cable that snaps onto the tailcap, so there’s no removing the light from your rail or fiddling with battery caps—just stick the cable on and walk away. At its current sale price of $36.99 (down from $45.99), the ML40S punches well above its weight, and it’s honestly hard to find another light with an included pressure switch anywhere near this price.
If you’re setting up a budget build or just want a reliable backup light that doesn’t cut corners on the essentials, the ML40S deserves a spot on your shortlist. Check the current price on Amazon here or grab it directly from VOTATU’s site. Use Code: gearchase for 12% Discount
